Garden of Infinite Compassion

A garden done for H.H. the Dalai Lama in Sun Valley, Idaho

To commemorate Nine Eleven, H.H. the Dalai Lama brought with him

a large prayer wheel filled with more than a million mantras

written by monks in Dharamsala, India to Sun Valley, Idaho.

His request was that this prayer wheel must be turned by water,

so that continuous prayers go out night and day,

day in and day out.

The prayer wheel was to be housed at the Sawtooth Botanic Garden

which lacked a natural source of running water.

With only six weeks left before the consecration prayer by the Dalai Lama,

the director of the Sawtooth garden called the director

of the Denver Botanic garden for advice on what to do.

She was directed to me. I left for Idaho immediately with Alxe

and my parrot, Quincy. In six weeks we designed and built this garden

which has been sending its message of peace ever since.

This was possible because the dedicated, talented,

and co-operative spirit of the whole community -

excellent professionals, many volunteers and many supporters;

Sharon Davies and Terry Reed who housed us in their inspired

apartment/environment.

Their friendship and support is something I hold like a treasure.

Unfortunately, Sharon past away last year.

Alxe made a video while we were designing and building this garden.
